Argus Coaching Tip for November 2001 This month do something creative that you don't usually do. Give yourself permission to take whatever amount of time you'd like to do so. If you have the time to take that improv acting class you've been thinking about, sign up and do it. Or, take an hour to make a collage from magazine pictures that captures your thoughts and dreams at that moment. Write a poem, daydream and come up with an idea for a product that will make your life easier, learn the words to a song and sing it for your friends or family. You may be surprised at how taking on a creative project can shift your thinking about other areas of your life. It's a way to stretch yourself, challenge yourself, and open up the world of possibilities. I challenged one of my clients to do this. She complained that she didn't have time to take on "something else," but she rose to the challenge. She started by putting aside an afternoon to dabble in watercolor painting. Although she had no artistic training, she enjoyed the time she spent creating. She began to do it regularly. After awhile, she had a breakthrough regarding her professional life that first occurred to her while she was creating a painting. Would she have had this breakthrough without coaching and without having spent time on a creative activity? We don't know for sure. But, her painting served several functions for her and she is grateful for having accepted the challenge. Let me know what creative endeavor you choose this month. And, let me know what you noticed about yourself while doing the activity and afterwards. Please help spread the word about Argus Coaching by sending this tip to others on your email list and encouraging them to visit my web site. The more, the merrier! Have a great month. With an eye on you, |
